FLY FISHING
Big Sky is known for the surrounding World-class fly fishing available in the nearby Gallatin River (10 minutes), Madison River (one hour drive) and Yellowstone River (1 1/2 hour drive). Whether you fish the rivers or small streams, you will see a variety of fish that includes Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Cut-throats, Mountain White Fish and Cut Bows. Guided fishing trips begin at 8 a.m. at the Fly Shop located on the Gallatin River. A day of wading streams or floating rivers is usually completed by returning to the Fly shop around 5-7 p.m. Remember, you must provide your social security # for fishing licenses.

WHITE WATER RAFTING
For an exciting outdoor adventure try Rafting through the rushing waters of the Gallatin River. Professional and experienced guides take groups through the mountainous wilderness for a trip to remember. Its a Rush!Half Day Trips depart at various times during the day. The trip lasts 2 – 2 1/2 hours on the river and 3 – 3 1/2 hours total. All gear is provided: life jacket, helmet, paddle, rain jacket. Available for rent are: wet suit ($7), booties ($4), wet suit and booties ($8).Transportation is usually provided.

BACKCOUNTRY SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
Venture next door to Beehive Basin, Porcupine Creek or other parts of neighboring Gallatin National Forest, or tour Yellowstone National Park. Stop in the local shops for area maps, advice on trails, rental equipment and updated avalanche forecasts.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Glide over 65 groomed kilometers of nationally ranked cross-country ski trails at Lone Mountain Ranch. Lessons, rentals and guided tours are available. Or check out the Rendezvous Trails in West Yellowstone.

  • August 26 - Pack your picnic basket and head to the Big Sky Community Park to enjoy Montana’s Shakespeare in the Park.
